When facing a midlife change, challenge or crisis you may ask yourself  …
How did I end up here?

Supporting men and women navigate midlife’s call for change

My clients often find me when they are at a crossroads.

My clients often meet me when they are at a crossroads, unsure of where they are, not knowing how to move forward with their lives, and generally feeling a sense of not belonging, questioning their identity and their life is lacking meaning.

Due to the constantly changing nature of our world and our lives today, we often find ourselves in transition, and sometimes in multiple transitions.

I suspect you may be here because you find yourself either in one of life’s transitions or on the threshold of something new or unfamiliar.

Now that you are here, is this the right place for you?

The answer is yes if you are experiencing…

A lack of identity
A loss of a sense of belonging
A lack of deeper (soul) meaning in your life
Your life is not going anywhere
You are struggling with your relationship
You are feeling stuck, lost or alone
Feeling there just has to be more to life

Or you may already be in a transition…

Relationship separation/end/divorce
Death of close family member/friend
Getting married
Having children
Retiring
Personal Injury/illness
Career or Job change

Navigating Life’s Transitions can be very different for all of us and starts with wherever you are today.

On this journey, through the perspective of life’s transitions as a rite of passage, my clients often refer to me as a guide and mentor.

Over the years my clients have been telling me they are searching for a sense of …

Greater personal resilience, a deeper sense of meaning and purpose, and a more fulfilling life.

I am here to support you in charting your new path, and to bring out the best that is you, that inner essence and spirit, that are your unique talents, abilities, and gifts.

I have been supporting individuals in navigating the challenges and transitions of midlife for over 10 years, helping them to resolve the question:

“How did I end up here?”

“How did YOU end up here?”

You have done all the right things and followed society’s rules and what was asked of you, yet the promises you were given have not been delivered and you have been left with a deep sense that ‘it wasn’t meant to be this way’.

I believe that the challenges you are facing are your soul’s calling for change.

I am referring to the Soul as the deepest essence and most authentic aspect of who we are. It carries our innate wisdom, holds our purpose, and is part of the interconnectedness of all existence, and is what holds us together. A loss of Soul can lead to feeling life lacks meaning and direction and has no real purpose.

The question  … How do we meet the soul’s need for change?

My answer … Through a personal journey to understand and experience the framework of life’s transitions as a rite of passage, which leads to a deeper understanding of the specific transition you are going through, and how this crucial process serves as a gateway for discovering deeper purpose, meaning, and connection to the larger web of life.

Somewhere along the road of life, you have either lost your way or outgrown your old sense of self (the old you). This has perhaps led you to feel as though you have no clear sense of direction, sometimes feeling somewhat adrift, questioning your beliefs, experiencing doubt, even an identity crisis, and struggling to find meaning in the face of your challenges.

This transition you are going through is both a form of initiation and a time of growth.  Although, at the time it might not feel good, yet, in terms of your life’s journey, this is exactly where you need to be and are meant to be in order that you can be guided toward and enter the next stage of your life.

Experiencing loss at times, is all part of your individual journey, and a part of the soul’s journey of making you stronger, and at the same time it is a calling, a wake-up to something new, even a new beginning.

For me this transition happened just before my 40th birthday, with the breakup of my second marriage, leaving me feeling lost, alone, and isolated, and the sense of becoming aware of the need for some deep soul searching.  I was holding more questions than answers around the meaning of my life … asking myself is this really it/what had I done wrong/there must be something more to life?  You can find out more about my journey here.

This is how the poet Dante beautifully captures my feelings at the time:

“In the middle of the road of my life, I awoke in a dark wood, where the true way was wholly lost.”

My Answer …

Life Transitions as a Rite of Passage

A life transition, from the perspective of a rite of passage, represents a pivotal moment when an individual moves from one stage of life to another, signifying personal growth and development, and involves a process where individuals experience challenges, learning, and self-discovery.

This journey involves acknowledging that something is ending, preparing for the journey by getting a deeper understanding of where you are now, learning how to better navigate the in-between space you find yourself in, then beginning to make sense of it all by understanding the patterns and beliefs that lead you to this point, and then plotting a new course towards your desired destination.

It involves letting go of the old and familiar, navigating uncertainty, and embracing new roles, responsibilities, or identities that come with the next phase of life.

That you are here indicates your desire for change, and having metaphorically woken up and seen that the world doesn’t make sense, you have two choices. The first is to try your best to go back to how things were, go back to your old ways and try to forget that you have felt this sense of brokenness, or second you can take the first step toward a new journey, a new you.

Your journey awaits, the choice is yours!

As a Life Transitions Mentor and Guide, I often connect with clients when they are in the middle of a crisis or challenge and guide them to a place of being more centred and connected to who they are, feel they are able to breathe again and to see that there are possibilities and a life ahead of them.

Are we a good match?

Yes, if…

You know that you can’t do it alone
You resonate with what you have read so far
You understand the resolution lay inside of you
You recognise change is an essential part of growth
You are curious and open to a more holistic guided approach

Yes, particularly if…

You feel connected to working with me
You are ready and willing to do your inner work
You are ready to invest the necessary time and effort
Your desire for change is bigger than staying where you are
You seek to find deeper meaning and satisfaction in your life
You are ready to take the first steps (even though you maybe unsure)

Regretfully NO, if…

You want a quick fix
You are sitting on the fence
You are not ready to change
You want someone else to fix the issue
You feel that time and priorities are an issue
You are not willing to take a deep hard look at yourself

Hear about Marc’s journey…

When I started with Paul my life was pretty much in shambles, I had a family disaster, very unhappy wife and felt very incapable as a husband, man and in general felt very insecure and lost, and I did not know where to go next.

Paul took me on a journey to understand the transition I was going through and to find myself, a process where I grew to first acknowledge, then understand and finally share my feelings. Learning to be more centered and conscious of myself and my being I was able to address and work on a lot of the issues that I had ignored and pushed aside hoping they would resolve themselves.

I have learnt to be more comfortable in my own skin, understand who I really am and how to accept love, all massive learnings for me and something I continue to work on daily. Being aware of my state of emotion continues to be incredibly valuable and something I have learnt to share, which has also led to creating closer and deeper relationships.

Of course, I understand that this is an ongoing journey and there is no real destination, and the thing that surprises me the most is when Paul holds up the proverbial mirror and gives me a reflection of who I was and where I came from – and while I still remember that person, I sure do feel a lot lighter and self-assured.
