About Paul Barker

Paul Barker (31) is based in Northallerton, Yorkshire and is the son of the legendary show jumper, David Boston Barker who was a member of Great Britain’s Nation Cup Team in the 1960’s and represented his country at the 1964 Olympic Games where the team just missed out on a bronze medal.

Paul is one of Great Britain’s leading show jumpers and started competing at the age of eight and won major classes on 128cm, 138cm and 148cm ponies including finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 1991 Junior Foxhunter final at the Horse of the Year Show.

In 1992, Paul won individual Bronze and Team Silver medals at the Pony European Championships. At the Horse of the Year Show in 1994, Paul scored a rare double of national championship victories; he won the prestigious pony title the Leading Junior Show Jumper of the Year. Paul then followed this up by winning the senior Grade C Championship.

Paul has won many Young Riders championships including the Young Show Jumper of the Year twice and remains the only rider to have achieved this. At the Horse of the Year Show Paul has won the Young Riders Championship and several international classes.

At senior level, Paul has achieved both national and international success. In 2006 he won three international and two national Grand Prix classes and whilst representing Great Britain jumped double clears in two Nations Cups and this earned Paul the title of Showjumper of the Month for August.

In the 2007 Atlantic Equestrian Tour in Portugal, Paul enjoyed tremendous success over the four week tour winning a Grand Prix and being placed second and third in two other Grand Prix events.

2008 saw Paul qualify for the British open at Birmingham where he finished second in the National A&B Final and had good places in several International Classes. Paul had a good season on the National circuit bringing on a team of younger horses, qualifying for the Horse of the Year Show and winning a class there on Elegant C.
